Crown XLS 802 Power Amps Review

Crown XLS 802 Power Amp The Crown XLS 802 Power Amplifier is rated for a maximum power output of 1600 watts in bridged mode (mono), 600 watts when driving a pair of 4 ohm stereo speakers, and 380 watts in 8 ohm stereo operation. At this level of power, the XLS 802 is sufficient to drive a subwoofer in bridged mode, or power bands or DJs that play in medium to large clubs and concert halls. Bands that are playing in very small clubs, however, may be a bit overpowered by the XLS 802. For these artists, it might be wise to look at something a little less powerful such as the Crown XLS 402 or 602.

The Crown XLS 802 has an all steel rackmount construction, weighing over 35 pounds and feeling extremely solid. It is designed to remain extremely cool even under hot stage lights, being cooled through a forced induction air system. As long as it is installed in the proper configuration, overheating should never be an issue. However, if a cooling problem is ever detected and the amplifier is in danger of overheating, a light on the front of the unit will turn on, and the amplifier will automatically shut off to prevent permanent damage. Additionally, the XLS 802 is protected from electrical damage. Just as with the thermal protection, an electrical overload will cause the amplifier to automatically shut down, alerting the user to the problem via a front mounted LED. The entire XLS amplifier line, including the XLS 802, is backed by Crown's three year, no fault, fully transferrable warranty.

Crown XLS 802 Power Amplifiers are an excellent choice for bands or DJs that play in medium to large concert venues. For very large or outdoor venues where the utmost in power is necessary, however, a more powerful amplifier might be necessary such as the XLS 5000, which provides a maximum of 5,000 watts.

Musicians around the world are familiar with the legendary tone of Crown amplifiers. Since the 1940s, Crown has provided the muscle necessary for performing bands to be heard at some of the world's largest and most respected live concert venues. Unfortunately, the high price has put Crown's products out of reach for bands that have not yet reached the top ranks of the touring circuit. Crown XLS 802 Power Amplifiers have changed this, by putting legendary Crown power into the hands of musicians who could not previously afford it.

* Legendary Crown sound quality results in punchy lows and crystal clear highs even at high volumes
