Behringer euroPower EPX3000 Power Amps Review

Behringer EPX3000 Power Amp This professional 3000-Watt Lightweight Stereo Power Amplifier is equipped with what the company calls Accelerated Transient Response (ATR) Technology. What this means to the musician is the instantaneous production of peak transients with a great deal of punch and very little distortion. Inside the box, the ponderous weight of most power amplifiers comes from their monolithic toroid transformers and the massive banks of capacitors which are required for high-power operation. The Behringer EuroPower EPX3000 Power Amplifier circumvents much of this weight and gains an enviable power-to-weight ratio by using a switching-mode power supply and Class H circuitry.

The advantage of switching-mode power supplies is that they work on demand rather than continuously. This enables a degree of efficiency unrivaled in the industry. When an amplifier is more efficient it uses less power; the less power it consumes the less heat it generates; the less heat it generates the smaller (and lighter) the power supply needed to cool it. The switching-mode power supplies of the Behringer EuroPower EPX3000 Power Amplifier only ramps output power up when it is demanded, which is frequently thousands of times per second. Switching-mode power supplies are light and small, yet deliver all the power needed for performance.

The downside to high-efficiency designs has traditionally been an increase in distortion. The Behringer EuroPower EPX3000 Power Amplifier tackles this problem with technological innovation. By using a Class H amplifier in the circuitry, an engineering design featuring infinitely variable rail switching for modulating the power supply rails. To do this the design topology is capable of modulating the supply rails such that the rails themselves operate only a few volts higher than the output signal. Thus the output stage of the amplifier is able to continuously operate at its maximum efficiency.

Beyond the technological wizardry inside the box, the front panel design permits the musician to easily control these amplifiers and to monitor their operation at a glance. Power-On LEDs light up when the amp is switched on, and Gain Dials, as well as clipping indicator LEDs, let the musician monitor for signal distortion. Each channel is independently configured and the gain is individually selectable.

Everything about the design, construction and usability of the Behringer EuroPower EPX3000 Power Amplifier is purposeful. It’s apparent from the start they were developed with the needs of the professional musician in mind. Their weight saving design makes it easier to transport than conventional power amps, it produces sufficient power, has a built-in crossover and limiter, and it’s built to endure the travails of multiple setups during the grueling road schedule.

On the road, where weight of equipment really matters, and on the stage where clarity of sound is imperative, the choice of power amplifier by discriminating musicians is overwhelming the Behringer EuroPower EPX3000 Power Amplifier.
